Thanks for your comment.
Having worked ...Hi Andrea.
Thanks for your comment.
Having worked in the UK for some years, I do know that doctors are pretty good in the main (though there are some terrible doctors everywhere, and the UK is not an exception).
I think the public healthcare system (as opposed to private, paid care) is definitely groaning almost everywhere as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and I don't see this situation changing. I can definitely see that governments and health boards view COVID as a greater priority than gender treatments.
I do, however, see COVID-19 as a blip on a much larger picture of more gender treatments becoming available to a wider group of people, and I definitely welcome this. But I also really sympathise with those transgender people who are desperate for treatment and feel pushed back down the queue by COVID.Viviennehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06137595207723645418noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4642548439896244587.post-90204755065163117212022-01-24T05:11:57.198+13:002022-01-24T05:11:57.198+13:00Hi Vivienne, interesting post, and something that ...Hi Vivienne, interesting post, and something that should be discussed. I am not in transition, and never will be, so I don't have personal experience of this particular situation. But my experience of doctors here in the UK has always been very good, OK I haven't discussed trans issues with them, but they have always been helpful and supportive. So I have no reason to think they would act any differently with someone with trans issues.

The system here in the UK is creaking at the seams following COVID and getting any major treatment is likely to take a long time, unfortunately trans related issues are likely to be regarded as not so essential and so will be pushed back down the order. So anyone seeking treatment needs to be realistic about the time frame and what is possible. That is not to say the GP shouldn't offer as much support as is possible.

There is a need for greater resources, but in the current climate that is going to be difficult and money and resources are urgently needed elsewhere. Hopefully the situation will improve over time, but asLynn says, the system does need to update to match modern needs.........
Life by Andrea Ravenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06762074769116922679noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4642548439896244587.post-83503193324002650572022-01-16T13:55:05.181+13:002022-01-16T13:55:05.181+13:00Hi Lynn. I think your Denning quote is very pertinent here!

I think one of the issues we face is the steep rise in the number of people coming forward for gender treatment. On the one hand, this is surely a good thing, as more people are willing to live life as their authentic selves. On the other, it's a problem because there are so few resources to help that they get swamped.Viviennehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06137595207723645418noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4642548439896244587.post-23437110678989237932022-01-16T03:46:06.398+13:002022-01-16T03:46:06.398+13:00Thanks for sharing your views on this subject. Life seems to be more nuanced.

Talking of good & bad...

"A Bad System Will Beat a Good Person Every Time." - W Edwards Denning.

With the above, it's not through a lack of effort on behalf of a medical professional. I think the health care of trans people needs to update to match the modern needs. Listening to trans folk and, when I've been lucky to hear from medical folk too, it seems the old system has yet to catch up, but it's stuck in politics and, of course, money.

Lynn Joneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00876715474502367377noreply@blogger.com
